略歴 - Biography -

1938年　ノルウェー、スタバンゲルに生まれる。
1956年　デンマークの美術学校の幾つかで学ぶ。（〜1959年）
1960年　アムステルダムの織工房 "de Uil" にて仕事をする。（〜1961年）
1961年　コペンハーゲンのベネディクト・グロートと共同で、タピストリーの制作に
　　　　 携るとともに、ドローイング（紙）の制作も行っている。
1972年〜　Betty Parsons Gallery、New York での個展は1980年まで５回開催され、
　　　　 その後も New York では Marian Goodman Gallery と Daian Brown Gallery で
　　　　 発表が続けられる。　
1982年　ニューヨークの The School of Visual Artsの学部講師を務める。（〜1993年）
　　　　 ノルウェーのダガリと共にニューヨークにも居住。
1986年　ニューヨークのグッゲンハイム美術館で個展。
1988年　京都国立近代美術展及び原美術館（東京）で個展｢ヤン・グロート｣展。
　　　　 南天子画廊で個展。（同画廊では1991年、1997年にも開催）
1989年〜　彫刻も始める。
2001年　ハラ ミュージアム アーク で｢ヤン・グロート｣展。
　　　　 オスロ国立現代美術館で大規模な回顧展。

　　　 gallery was held five times up to 1980) Later, Marian Goodman Gallery
　　　 and Dian Brown Gallery showed his works in New York.
1982　Faculty-member of the School of Visual Arts in New York （-1993）
　　　 Resides in Dagali, Norway and New York
1986　One-man show at Solomon R. Guggenhaeim Museum, New York
1988　One-man show at The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto and
　　　 Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo.
　　　 One-man show at Nantenshi Galllery, Tokyo.
　　　 (Another show at the same gallery each in 1991 and 1997)
1989-　Working in sculpture.
1995　The Jan Groth Archives are established in Rogaland Kunstmuseum,
　　　 Stavanger, Norway
2001　One-man show at Hara Museum ARC
　　　 Retrospective show at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo
